An adaptive controller is a controller that can modify its behavior in response to dynamic changes in the system and process disturbances.
Adaptive control concept,Adaptive control has many definitions. One of the most accepted is that it is a nonlinear special control system, in which the state of the process can beseparated on two time scales evolving at different speeds.There are many types of controllers that can provide good regulation characteristics when system parameters change. However, according to the above definition, they are not really adaptive, because adaptation is completed in an open-loop.The following figure shows a general schematic of the adaptive controller. The design of modern controller is divided into three stages. System modeling, model parameter identification, and finally controller design.
Although the controller used in adaptive systems can be linear, adaptive systems usually allow the latter two stages of automation.
For example, when the PID controller with minimum variance and prediction is combined with the parameter adjustment law, the whole system becomes a nonlinear system. Therefore, all stability analyses must be carried out using techniques suitable for nonlinear systems.Adaptive control is related to the control program and is used by the controller that must adapt to the controlled system with deviation or uncertain parameters.The adaptive control system detects the performance changes in the process and automatically adjusts the control parameters. This needs to compensate for changing process conditions. Finally, its job is to optimize the loop response.
